Approach with Parents

Raising a teenager is not easy. It can be a difficult and challenging time and requires a different set of skills compared to parenting a younger child.  When working with parents I am sensitive to the fact that you are trusting me with your child, I will meet with you periodically to discuss your concerns, to gain more information from you, to answer questions, and will work collaboratively with you to help support your teen.  I will make suggestions, provide guidance and  practical skills to help you support your teen.

Your teen will set the pace regarding what they allow me to share with you. This often varies depending on the age of your child, where they are in the separation phase of adolescent development, and how much trust we have established in our therapeutic relationship, and can shift and change throughout our work together.  I work to improve communication between you and your teen and to keep you as informed as I possibly can.
