- Marked decrease in school performance
- Poor grades in school despite the fact the adolescent is trying hard
- Excessive fears, worry, anxiety or crying
- Hyperactivity or fidgeting beyond that observed in other adolescents
- Persistent risk-taking
- Constant disobedience, aggression, or provocative opposition to authority
- Inability to make or keep friends
- Significant weight loss or weight fluctuation not related to a known medical condition
- Obsessive fears of becoming obese with no relation to actual body weight
- Excessive complaints of physical ailments
- Aggressive or non-aggressive violation of other people’s rights, truancy, thefts, fire-setting, or vandalism
- Threats to runaway
- Self-mutilation, e.g., cutting, burning, scratching
